Out and About: Rensselaer Students Spend Spring Break Building Habitat for Humanity Home
A dozen students from Rensselaer’s chapter of Habitat for
Humanity International traveled to Liberty, South Carolina
during spring break to work on a Habitat for Humanity
homebuilding project. The students worked alongside other
volunteers from around the country and the future owners of the
home, as part of the annual Habitat for Humanity Collegiate
Challenge held March 13-17 in the area.
“Since the work is tangible and real, the result of the
students’ efforts throughout the week can be seen and
felt. It’s rewarding to help people who are less
fortunate,” said David Jendras, a sophomore majoring in
mechanical engineering, and the organization’s spring break
coordinator. “As the Habitat for Humanity main goal says, ‘We
are working on eliminating poverty houses worldwide.’ A
week of work by a group of students accelerates this
process. There’s a sense of pride to be taken from the
work done on the house.”
