Accolades
Thierry Blanchet, associate professor in
the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear
Engineering, was recently elected Fellow of the Society of
Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers. The recognition was
formally presented at the Awards Luncheon of STLE's annual
meeting in Las Vegas May 16-19, 2005.
Student-athletes Jennifer Dias and
Trevor Tersmette have earned National
All-American status while competing in the 2005 NCAA Division
III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Wartburg College
in Waverly, Iowa. Dias, a sophomore, finished fourth in the
400-meter hurdles while Tersmette, a senior, was fifth in the
decathlon. The top eight finishers in each event are
All-Americans. Dias, a native of Taunton, Mass., earned
All-American for the second straight season with a finals time
of 62.39. Tersmette, from Barneveld, N.Y., compiled a school
record 6,750 points to earn the first All-American honor of his
career. His best finishes came in the high jump (1.96 meters)
and in the 110-meter hurdles (15.50), both of which he placed
third. He was fifth in three other events.
The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-New York Region
Baseball Teams have been announced and seven Rensselaer
student-athletes have been recognized, including Dan
Quinn, named to the First Team making him eligible for
National All-American honors. Chosen to the Second Team were
Joe Ihnatolya, Mike Passante,
and Nick Parenteau. Rich
Mundy, Adam Lasek, and Chris
Sullivan were selected to the Third Team. Rensselaer,
coached by Karl Steffen, posted a 25-15 record
this season.
Student-athlete Pat Fell has been selected to
the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1 College
Division Men's At-Large First Team. Fell, who has twice earned
National Academic All-American honors, is again eligible to be
considered for national recognition. A senior swimmer from
Waverly, N.Y., Fell has a 3.96 cumulative grade point average
as an information technology major with a concentration in
finance. In the pool, Fell was a three-year captain who led the
team in scoring twice. This season, he was the Liberty League
Swimmer of the Week on two occasions and he helped the Red
Hawks win the league championship.
Members of Rensselaer's Communications group
have won four NORI awards from the Albany Ad Club, which
annually honors work by Capital Region advertising agencies,
graphic designers, public relations firms, and audio and video
production facilities. Rensselaer 2005 NORI winners are: 2004
President's Report — Annual Report Category; 2004 President's
Report — Black and White Illustration Category; Humanities and
Social Sciences/School of Architecture Graduate Admissions
Brochure — Consumer Institutional Brochure Category; One Word
Television Campaign — Institution/Service Television Campaign
Category. This is the third award for the 2004 President's
Report, which has also won a CASE Gold Medal in the
Institutional Relations publications category (one of only two
Gold Medals from 240 submissions) and a CASE Silver Medal in
the Visual Design in Print category (multi-page publications,
periodicals, books, calendars, and specialty piece).
