Host of Democracy Now! Will Address Media
Issues
Troy, N.Y. — Amy Goodman, host of Pacifica Radio’s
award-winning daily program, Democracy Now!, will speak at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, March 17, at 4
p.m. in room 308 of the Darrin Communication Center. Her
presentation is free to the public.
Goodman will address the turmoil wracking the Pacifica
Foundation and its five major market radio stations. She will
also discuss her experiences covering the Democratic and
Republican Conventions for Democracy Now! last summer that was
carried on an unprecedented network of community radio
stations, cable television channels, Web streams and direct
broadcast satellite. That historic collaboration is driving an
effort to develop Democracy Now! into a national daily
television show.
Her appearance is part of a two-day conference in Troy. Titled
“Media Matters: Connecting Communities in the Digital Age,” the
gathering will bring in leaders of community media and
technology centers from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New
Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont as well as New York.
The annual conference is being held in the Capital Region for
the first time to provide information that elected officials
and other concerned citizens can use to build local
communication infrastructure and media literacy.
