RPI Researchers Awarded $1.5M To Produce Hemp-Based Insulated Siding

Researchers from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) will use hemp to develop a commercially viable, durable, and low-embodied-carbon insulated siding product to address what the U.S. Green Building Council says is a “crucial need for building retrofits to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.”

CASE Doctoral Student To Conduct Fellowship at Berkeley Lab

Jihoon Chung, a doctoral candidate in the Built Ecologies program at the Center for Architecture, Science, and Ecology (CASE) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, will spend the next eight months conducting research at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). There, Chung will study under the tutelage of Tianzhen Hong who is leading an occupant behavior research project as a principal investigator (PI) at LBNL to integrate occupant behavior models and tools with building performance simulation.

CASE Faculty Invited To Speak at NYS Innovation Summit

Alexandros Tsamis, the associate director of the Center for Architecture, Science, and Ecology (CASE) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, recently spoke at the New York State Innovation Summit. Tsamis was invited to participate in the panel discussion on materials innovation for manufacturing sustainability.

CASE Doctoral Candidate Presents Research on Designing with Plants

Will Pepi, a Ph.D. candidate in the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Center for Architecture, Science and Ecology (CASE) in Industry City, Brooklyn, presented his paper, “Modeling Indoor Botanical Fresh Air Generation” in the Biowalls and Biofiltration poster session at the ASHRAE conference in Tampa on June 28. Pepi then traveled to Miami, where he spoke about his research on designing with plants to CASE’s industry partner, the global architecture firm OBMI, at their Miami office.
