Athletics Honored for Academic Success
Eight Rensselaer student-athletes have been honored as
National Academic All-Americans for the 2003-04 school
year.
Rensselaer ranks first in the number of Academic All-American
awards among all Division III schools nationwide and is tied
for second among all schools that sponsor athletics (Divisions
I, II, III and the National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics), trailing only the University of Nebraska, which
boasted nine awardees. Rice University, another Division I
school, also had eight honorees.
“Let this serve as definitive proof that Rensselaer is the
right school for students who are serious about being the best
in their sport and in the classroom,” says Ken Ralph, director
of athletics at Rensselaer. “These awards combine
national-caliber athletic achievement with academic prowess to
showcase the best of the best in college athletics. I can think
of no finer honor for the students, their coaches, or
Rensselaer.”
The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and
female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the
highest level on the playing field and in the classroom.
