Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute sits atop a hill
overlooking Troy, NY. A massive granite staircase connects the campus and the
riverside city below. It is known as The Approach.

Initially completed in 1907, The Approach has served
as a literal entry point to the university for more than a century. Its current
splendor is the product of a significant renovation supported by the Louis and
Hortense Rubin Foundation in the 1990s.

Since launching in 2009, The Approach Blog has chronicled
the innovative ideas, processes, and endeavors of
students and faculty at Rensselaer. It is about to undergo a renovation of its
own.

Going forward, The Approach Blog will
serve as a space to acknowledge and celebrate the multifaceted research and
accomplishments of faculty and students at Rensselaer.

The posts may range in length, depth, and subject matter, but they will maintain a consistent spirit. Like the actual Approach, this blog will elevate the members of the Rensselaer community and bring them to a common area that encourages further education, collaboration, and discovery.
