Rensselaer Ranked 41st Among National Universities
U.S. News ranking is the latest recognition of the long-held reputation of Rensselaer as one of the nation’s top universities
Troy, N.Y. - U.S. News & World Report has once again ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute highly among the best universities in the United States. The publication’s annual list of college rankings released last week ranked Rensselaer 41st overall among all national universities.
This reflects a rise in the rankings for Rensselaer, up one spot to 41st. Rensselaer is tied with Boston University, Tulane University, the University of California at Davis, the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign, and the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
U.S. News also ranked Rensselaer as having the 31st best undergraduate engineering program, as 38th among Great School Great Prices, as 38th among High School Counselors, and tied for having the 61st best undergraduate business program.
Since its founding in 1824, Rensselaer has maintained a reputation for providing a transformative education of undisputed intellectual rigor based on innovation in the laboratory, classroom, and studio.

The recently admitted Class of 2019 is exceptionally accomplished and diverse, comprised of students with a special interest in discovery, innovation, and interdisciplinary study in architecture, engineering, science, technology, management, and the intersection of technology with the humanities, arts, and social sciences. The class of 1391 students includes:
- 76 high school valedictorians or salutatorians; and,
- 154 with a perfect 800 SAT score in reading, writing, or math.
