TROY, N.Y. — Students from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Class of 2019 have developed assistive technologies for people with disabilities, co-authored published research as undergraduates, and overcome obstacles to succeed on the basketball court and in the classroom

Rensselaer has profiled just some of the talented, driven, and compassionate students who will be graduating this May.

The students profiled have wide-ranging backgrounds, interests, and future plans. They dream of bringing clean water and energy to developing nations, jump-starting unique entrepreneurial endeavors to create a more sustainable planet, and promoting community and environmental resilience through urban planning and design.

These students embody the spirit of The New Polytechnic, a model for education and research that emphasizes collaboration across disciplines in order to solve global challenges.

They have worked across majors and schools to help develop a one-of-a-kind immersive language learning environment, a mobile game to teach medical students about drug development, and experiments to be conducted on the International Space Station.

Simply put, the Class of 2019 has fully embraced the Institute’s slogan: “Why not change the world?”
