Troy, N.Y. — Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has received notification that the Middle States Commission acted to reaffirm the Institute’s accreditation at its June 22 session. 

Jessica S. Kozloff, chair of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, wrote in a letter that the Commission “commended” Rensselaer for the quality of the self-study report submitted in conjunction with the accreditation process.

“Rensselaer has made tremendous progress and has improved in a number of very important areas, since the last review in 1995.  These changes are the result of a combination of outstanding leadership and an excellent faculty, engaged in groundbreaking research and innovative approaches to education,” said G. P. “Bud” Peterson, provost at Rensselaer during the accreditation review process. “I am proud to have been able to be part of this transformation.” Peterson will assume his new position as chancellor of the University of Colorado at Boulder on July 15.

The Commission on Higher Education is the unit of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools that accredits degree-granting colleges and universities in the Middle States region, which includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and several locations abroad. 

The Commission is a recognized leader in promoting and ensuring quality assurance and improvement in higher education. It defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence and responds creatively to a diverse, dynamic, global higher education community that is continually evolving. The Commission examines an institution as a whole, rather than specific programs within the institution.
