Eckart the second woman in RAA history to lead the organization
Troy, N.Y. — Carrie Eckart ’85 has been elected president of the Rensselaer Alumni Association (RAA), an organization made up of more than 90,000 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute alumni worldwide. Only the second woman since 1862 to serve as president of the RAA (or its predecessor, the Association of Rensselaer Graduates) Eckart began her two-year term on Saturday, June 9.
Elected by the RAA Board of Trustees — a diverse group of 30 members who represent alumni interests to the Institute — Eckart will work directly with the Office of Alumni Relations to engage and empower alumni as active and effective partners in the Rensselaer community.
“Having served as president of Rensselaer’s Hudson-Mohawk alumni chapter for 20 years, and a member of the RAA Board of Trustees for five years, Carrie’s commitment toward serving the growing population of Rensselaer alumni is clear,” said Director of Alumni Relations Jeff Schanz. “We look forward to working with her to continue to develop and implement a wide variety of programs, events, and services that are of interest and value to the Institute’s alumni community.”
Eckart received a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Rensselaer in 1985. In 1986, as a graduate student, she was elected by her classmates to serve as Grand Marshal, the president of the student body. She received a master’s degree in business administration from the Institute in 1987.
Eckart is currently director of graduate medical education at Albany Medical College.
