Statement of President Shirley Ann Jackson on the Pending Retirement of New York State Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute President Shirley Ann Jackson issued the following statement, regarding the announcement by New York State Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno of his plan to retire from the State Senate:

"Senator Bruno has been a trusted friend to me, to Rensselaer, and to the region. He has a keen understanding of the value of harnessing the power of scientific and technological discovery and innovation to fuel the economy of the region, and the state. He is a one-of-a-kind public servant, and we will miss his leadership. We cannot thank him enough."

President Jackson discussed the new Computational Center for Nanotechnology Innovations (CCNI) with Senator Bruno at a special sneak preview event. Senator Bruno spoke at the opening of Rensselaer’s new 800 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer facility.
