Troy, N.Y. — Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s engineering, fine arts, applied mathematics, and management programs were ranked among the best in the nation in the 2006 U.S. News & World Report guide to “America’s Best Graduate Schools,” published April 1, 2005 online. 

“These graduate rankings validate what we already know, Rensselaer ranks among the top universities in the country,” said Rensselaer President Shirley Ann Jackson.  “These rankings reflect the quality and depth of our graduate programs.”

The Graduate School of Engineering was ranked 34 in the nation. Four of the engineering programs are ranked in the top 20 (materials science and engineering, nuclear engineering, industrial engineering and mechanical engineering), eight of 11 are ranked in the top 25, and all are ranked in the top 30 in the nation. 

The Lally School of Management and Technology’s entrepreneurship programs ranked 21 in the nation, and the graduate programs overall ranked 68. The Lally School’s new interdisciplinary MBA curriculum, including the leadership development component, was featured in the 2006 rankings guide.

“This is further confirmation of the continuing strengthening of the Lally School, and the value of Rensselaer’s focus on entrepreneurship throughout the curriculum,” Jackson said.

Entrepreneur magazine recently ranked the technological entrepreneurship program at Rensselaer’s Lally School sixth in the nation, and in October 2004, Princeton Review survey ranked Rensselaer first in a list of the “most connected campuses.”

Rensselaer’s Master of Fine Arts multimedia/visual communications program was ranked eighth in the nation. U.S. News & World Report reprinted 2002 data for many programs, including applied mathematics, again ranking Rensselaer’s Ph.D. program as 21 in the nation.
