Rensselaer Names New Treasurer and Chief Investment Officer

Troy, N.Y. — Walé F. Adeosun, chartered financial analyst, has been named treasurer and chief investment officer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The treasurer and chief investment officer, a newly created position at Rensselaer, will facilitate management of the Institute’s assets and liabilities including managing endowment and pension plan investments and other financial capital assets, according to Virginia C. Gregg, vice president for finance and chief financial officer at Rensselaer. The treasurer and chief investment officer will work closely with the president, investment committee of the board of trustees, and the vice president for finance and chief financial officer.

“As the Institute expands, guided by The Rensselaer Plan , the complexity of our investments grows with it. Walé Adeosun’s experience in major corporate and nonprofit organizations will enhance our existing financial management practices and infrastructure to help us reach our long-term business goals,” Rensselaer President Shirley Ann Jackson said.

Adeosun has 12 years of experience in pensions and investment management. Prior to joining Rensselaer, he was managing director, public equities, for the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, where he was responsible for $1.5 billion in U.S. equities investments and the marketable alternatives program. The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, headquartered in Chicago, describes itself as a private, independent grant-making institution dedicated to helping groups and individuals foster lasting improvement in the human condition. Previously, Adeosun was manager, pensions and risk management, for Inland Steel Industries and for Ryerson Tull Corporation, a former subsidiary of Inland Steel Industries.

Adeosun is a chartered financial analyst (CFA), a member of CFA Institute; board member, Investment Analysts Society of Chicago; board member, the Investment Praxis Program at Washington University in St. Louis; and board member, the Cabrini-Green Tutoring Program in Chicago, Ill.

Adeosun received his MBA from the John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University in Saint Louis, Mo., with a concentration in finance, and has an undergraduate degree in economics and business administration from Coe College, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Adeosun joined Rensselaer on May 17, 2004.
