Rensselaer Motorsport Unveils 2019 Car

Students from Rensselaer Motorsport, the Formula SAE team at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, unveiled the car they will be using to
compete at Michigan International Speedway later this year.

The vehicle, RM24, was completely designed and built by
student team members. Team Leader Ryder Winans said they used advanced CAD and
simulation software to design the more than 1,000 components of the car. He
said that more than 90 percent of the parts were then manufactured and
assembled by students at Rensselaer.

When the car is raced in May, the team will be competing
against more than 120 teams from across the globe. Winans said that the vehicle
will be evaluated on a number of factors including cost, marketability, and
thoroughness of design. It will be tested in several events on the track to
assess things like the vehicle’s acceleration, and its endurance.

In last year’s competition, Rensselaer Motorsport finished
23rd overall out of 114.
