The Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has been strategically building partnerships with companies throughout the United States and globally to create a wide array of opportunities for students to pursue as part of The Arch at Rensselaer.

During The Arch, all students must spend a fall or spring semester of their junior year participating in an off-campus experiential learning opportunity, which could take the form of an internship or co-op at one of the leading companies partnered with CCPD.

United Technologies, a Fortune 100 company and well-established Rensselaer employer partner, provides services to customers in the commercial aerospace, defense, and building industries. With more than 240,000 employees and net sales of $66.6 billion worldwide, United Technologies provides high-technology systems and services to clients through its Carrier, Collins Aerospace, Otis, and Pratt & Whitney divisions.

When asked about the pool of talent at Rensselaer, Ben Berneike, senior manager of global talent acquisition at United Technologies, said, “For many years, United Technologies and our divisions have gone to RPI to recruit because of the strength of the curriculum and long-term success of RPI’s students working in our company. We look for candidates that bring passion, a strong work ethic, and an innovative mindset to the workplace, and we have continued to find students with those characteristics at RPI year after year.”

With a focus on Engineering and Operations positions, United Technologies also offers a variety of opportunities in almost every field, allowing employees the chance to advance their career paths. Through the Employee Scholar Program, United Technologies is committed to supporting the growth and professional development of employees at every stage of their careers.

The people and products are among the top reasons that make United Technologies a great place to work. “Our employees are passionate and innovative, and we work hard as a team,” said Berneike. “The culture is one of support and empowerment at all levels, continuously working to improve our products and our business in order to satisfy our customers.”

The CCPD’s Employer Relations team at Rensselaer has worked with several hundred top national and global companies to create over a thousand new career development opportunities
