The life-saving use of naloxone and the social movement to make it more available in order to combat opioid overdoses is the focus of the latest episode of Why Not Change the World? The RPI Podcast.

Recorded before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the episode features Nancy Campbell, the head of the Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the author of the new book OD: Naloxone and the Politics of Overdose, recently published by MIT Press.

A historian of science and medicine who focuses on addiction research, drug treatment, drug policy, and drug-using subcultures, Campbell conducted nearly 60 interviews for the book, traveling from upstate New York to cities and towns in Massachusetts, rural New Mexico, and throughout Scotland and England.

Alli Morgan, a doctoral student in STS, joins Campbell in conversation on the podcast. Morgan has served as an emergency medical technician and provides a unique personal perspective to the conversation.
