The final episode of the third season of Why Not Change the World? The RPI Podcast explores the challenges and opportunities associated with working remotely, something that has suddenly become very common during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Timothy Golden, a professor in the Lally School of Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been researching remote work for more than 20 years and is one of the country’s leading experts on the subject. In this podcast episode, he explores what the boom in remote work resulting from the pandemic will mean for both companies and their employees moving forward.
Also in this episode, Christopher Fisher-Lochhead, a lecturer in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences and the leader of the Fusion Ensemble at Rensselaer, shares his experience assembling and leading a music ensemble in an era of social distancing.
Created in response to the pandemic, the Fusion Ensemble combines musicians from the Rensselaer Orchestra, Concert Choir, and Chamber Music Ensembles into one group, with some members participating in person and others participating remotely. Fisher-Lochhead explains how, despite a number of challenges, they are still managing to follow through on a major Rensselaer tradition: the President’s Holiday Concert.
