Michael Shur, a professor of electrical, computer, and systems engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been elected as a fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP). Fellow is the highest level of membership within the Institute, and is awarded in recognition of a researcher’s accomplishments in the field of physics.
Shur is also the Patricia and Sheldon Roberts Professor of Solid State Electronics and professor of physics, applied physics, and astronomy at Rensselaer, where much of his work focuses on solid state devices and integrated circuits, including UV and LED lighting, and terahertz devices and systems.
Shur’s research is highly cited, and he is a life fellow of professional organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and American Physical Society. He is also a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, the Optical Society of America, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, among others. Shur is the co-founder, vice president, and CTO of Electronics of the Future Inc. He has also co-founded several other startup companies including Sensor Electronic Technology, Inc., a leading producer of ultraviolet LEDs for use in hospital settings.
