On September 30, 48 participants gathered to run in the annual Run to Remember 5K hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Detachment 550. The event, which took place in honor of our fallen heroes, served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve our nation.
A notable highlight of the Run to Remember 5K was the guest speaker, Carrie Farley, who shared her personal connection to the cause. Her son, Staff Sergeant Derek John Farley, made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Farley's speech was a reminder of the importance of honoring those who have fallen in combat and overseas. She stressed the need to keep their memories alive, to appreciate the bravery and sacrifice of our servicemen and women, and to support the gold star families who have endured unimaginable loss.
The Run to Remember 5K event was not just a race; it was a sentimental reminder of the sacrifices made by our military, a heartfelt tribute to the fallen, and an opportunity to support gold star families. In the end, it was a day to come together as a community and show unwavering respect and gratitude for those who have kept our country safe. As participants laced up their running shoes and hit the pavement, they also carried in their hearts the memory of heroes like Staff Sergeant Farley and countless others who have given their all for our freedom.
