The latest board game from Maurice Suckling, an assistant professor in the Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, is among the most anticipated war board games of 2021, according to a leading board game website.
Hidden Strike: The American Revolution, which will be released by Worthington Publishing in April, was recently highlighted by The Player’s Aid. The game is an abstract multiplayer and multi-play mode take on military and political strategies used during the Revolutionary War that allows players to experience this topic in one of five player configurations: solo, co-op, traitor, versus, and mastermind.
“It’s a blend between what we think of as a war game, and what’s sometimes called a social game.” Suckling said. “My personal favorites are the co-op mode, where all players work together against the game, and the traitor mode, where all the players are working against the game trying to figure out if there’s a traitor.”
One of Suckling’s previous board games, Chancellorsville 1863, recently sold out of its first production run in four months and will be getting a second printing.
Last year, Suckling discussed his approach to designing war games on an episode of Why Not Change the World? The RPI Podcast.
He is currently working on his next title, which will focus on the 1565 Siege of Malta.
