Rebecca W. Doerge Named Provost of RPI

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) today announced the appointment of Rebecca W. Doerge, Ph.D., as Provost, effective August 1, 2023. Doerge joins the Rensselaer community from Carnegie Mellon University, where she is the Glen de Vries Dean of the Mellon College of Science and a member of the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences’ Department of Statistics and Data Science and the Mellon College of Science’s Department of Biological Sciences.

RPI President Schmidt Appointed to DOE Advisory Committee

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) President Martin A. Schmidt ’81, Ph.D., has been appointed to the Department of Energy’s Office of Science Advisory Committee. The group of leaders from industry, academia, and national laboratories will support the Office of Science by providing independent, consensus advice regarding complex scientific and technical issues. 

EMPAC Presents staging grounds, February 20–28, 2026 A Festival of Time-Based Art and Re-Animated Memory

The Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is pleased to announce staging grounds, a nine-day festival of installations, performances, and public programs exploring how culture is shaped by acts of return and re-animation. Taking place February 20–28, 2026, the festival brings together five international artists—Korakrit Arunanondchai, Jewyo Rhii, Na Mira, Samson Young, and Li Yi-Fan—whose practices illuminate how art restages experience across time. 

Doug Swank Awarded Prestigious Award for Work on Muscle Physiology

RPI Biology Professor Doug Swank, Ph.D., was recently awarded the prestigious Marion J. Siegman Lectureship Award from the American Physiological Society. The award recognizes researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the understanding of muscle contraction and motility. 

RPI Faculty Among World’s Most-Cited Researchers

Two RPI researchers, Ge Wang, Ph.D., Clark & Crossan Endowed Chair Professor and director of the Biomedical Imaging Center at RPI, and Fudong Han, Ph.D., associate professor and Priti & Mukesh Chatter '82 Career Development Chair, have earned a spot on Clarivate’s 2025 Highly Cited Researchers list.
