Student Group Inspires Girls in STEM

Recently, Rensselaer’s Talk Without Borders student group visited the Brighter Choice Charter School for Girls. Talk Without Borders is an enrichment program, sponsored by the Mueller Center at Rensselaer, that brings together students of all nationalities for volunteer projects that celebrate diversity. 

Juergen Hahn Elected Leader of the Biomedical Engineering Society’s Council of Chairs for 2023

Dr. Juergen Hahn, Professor and Department Head for Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been elected leader of the Biomedical Engineering Society’s (BMES) Council of Chairs for 2023. BMES consists of the department heads/department chairs of all BME departments across the nation. This appointment follows Dr. Hahn being named a BMES Fellow in early September.

Yinan Wang Selected as Panel Fellow for National Science Foundation CMMI Game Change Academies

Dr. Yinan Wang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been selected as a Panel Fellow in the 2023 cohort of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of CMMI Game Changer Academies for Advancing Research Innovation (CGCA). The annual program hosted by the NSF aims to improve group dynamics during panel discussions, increase awareness of bias and identity, and enhance understanding of high-risk, high-reward ideas.

Dr. José Holguín-Veras Receives Honorary Doctorate

Dr. José Holguín-Veras, the William H. Hart Professor and Director of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Center for Infrastructure, Transportation, and the Environment (CITE), has received an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering from Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia.

Students Learn Entrepreneurship Essentials Through Problem Pitch Competition

At Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, students are challenged with the slogan, “Why not change the world?” Each semester since the fall of 2017, the Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship at Rensselaer’s Lally School of Management has hosted the Problem Pitch Competition. The goal is to encourage students to, first and foremost, identify problems if they want to become a change-makers.

Rensselaer Students Empowered by Conference Celebrating Women in Tech

Fifteen Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute students from the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Information Technology and Web Science attended the AnitaB.org Grace Hopper Celebration in Orlando, Florida in September 2022. The annual conference “brings the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront.”
