Troy, N.Y. — William Pomeroy ’66, founder and CEO of CXtec, has been selected as the 2008 William F. Glaser ’53 Rensselaer Entrepreneur of the Year. Pomeroy’s company, based in Syracuse, N.Y., is a multimillion-dollar global provider of new and certified pre-owned networking, cable, and voice technology equipment. The company has been helping customers reduce the cost of their networking infrastructure and technology equipment for over 30 years.

Troy, N.Y. — Fengyan Li, assistant professor of mathematical sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been named a 2008 Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow. Li is among a group of 118 fellows from 64 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada who have been recognized for conducting research at the frontiers of physics, chemistry, mathematics, neuroscience, economics, computer science, and computational and evolutionary molecular biology.

Troy, N.Y. — Twenty-four students have been inducted into the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Phalanx Honor Society. Phalanx honors student leadership, service, and devotion to the university, and celebrates those who have “worked to better the standing of Rensselaer both on and off campus.” New members are selected — or “tapped” — by the student members of Phalanx.

Class of ’51 Scholarship Fund supports innovations in law enforcement, online purchasing Troy, N.Y.  — Ideas for a “wired” law enforcement badge and an online ordering platform have both received funding as the winners of Rensselaer’s Class of ’51 Entrepreneurship Fund, established to help transform student ideas into sustainable ventures. 

Troy, N.Y, — Toh-Ming Lu, the R.P. Baker Distinguished Professor of Physics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been named a lifetime fellow of the Materials Research Society (MRS). The MRS has recognized Lu for his contributions to the advancement of materials research, specifically his “seminal contributions to the fundamental understanding of thin film morphological evolution.”
