Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute doctoral student Emily de Stefanis is one of 60 recipients of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) award. The SCGSR program places students with mentors at DOE national labs, where students learn from top experts in their field and conduct research in state-of-the-art facilities.De Stefanis will spend 2024 at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico working on her research with experts in the field of nuclear materials.
At its National Convention in December, the national service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega awarded two awards to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Epsilon Zeta chapter.
When you try a new restaurant or book a hotel, do you consider the online reviews? Do you submit online reviews yourself? Do you pay attention if they are filtered and moderated? Does that impact your own online review submissions? A research team comprising of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s T. Ravichandran, Ph.D., professor in the Lally School of Management, and Jason Kuruzovich, Ph.D., associate professor in the Lally School of Management; and Lianlian Jiang, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston, examined these questions in recently published research.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) will hold its 25th annual Black Families Technology Awareness Day on Saturday, February 3, at 9 a.m. The event, free and open to the public, is designed to introduce historically underrepresented students in grades K-12, their families, and educators to educational and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) has announced that Dr. Darío Gil, Senior Vice President and Director of IBM Research, has joined the RPI Board of Trustees for a four-year term effective January 1, 2024. He will sit on the Academic Affairs and Research Committee and Administration and Infrastructure Committee.
Jihoon Chung, a doctoral candidate in the Built Ecologies program at the Center for Architecture, Science, and Ecology (CASE) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, will spend the next eight months conducting research at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). There, Chung will study under the tutelage of Tianzhen Hong who is leading an occupant behavior research project as a principal investigator (PI) at LBNL to integrate occupant behavior models and tools with building performance simulation.
Thanks to technological advances, scientists have access to vast amounts of data, but in order to put it to work and draw conclusions, they need to be able to process it. In research recently published in Genome Biology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Boleslaw Szymanski, Ph.D., Claire and Roland Schmitt Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and director of the Network Science and Technology Center, and team have found a method that effectively organizes and groups the data for a variety of applications. The process is referred to as clustering in machine learning.
Two researchers from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute have been distinguished as some of the most highly cited by Clarivate. Humberto Terrones, Ph.D., is the Rayleigh Endowed Chair Professor of Physics, Applied Physics, and Astronomy. Fudong Han, Ph.D., is an assistant professor and Priti and Mukesh Chatter ’82 Career Development Chair in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Trevor David Rhone, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Physics, Applied Physics, and Astronomy, has been invited to participate as a Scialog fellow by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement. Scialog “supports research, intensive dialogue, and community building to address scientific challenges of global significance.” About 50 early career faculty are invited to participate as fellows for each Scialog.
