The Jefferson Project at Lake George is looking for shoreline dock owners interested in participating in a new summer assessment of shoreline algae.

Jian Shi, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, is the 2019 winner of the Alfred H. Geisler Memorial Award.   The award, given by the Eastern New York Chapter of ASM International, “recognizes an outstanding young materials scientist/engineer” from the chapter who has made significant contributions to the fields of education, research, or manufacturing, before the age of 40.  

Daniel Gall, professor of materials science and engineering, has received the 2019 IBM Faculty Award, part of a competitive worldwide program aimed at fostering collaboration in research and promoting curriculum innovation. With the award, Gall receives $40,000 to support his work in the area of post-Cu metallization. 

Steve Jane, a graduate student in biological sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program fellowship for the 2019-2020 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the J. Jonathan Dordick, the Howard P. Isermann ’42 Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Rensselaer, will receive the Amgen Biochemical and Molecular Engineering Award at the ECI Conference on Biochemical and Molecular Engineering in Quebec, Canada, this July.

TROY, N.Y. —Engineers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute are working to improve imaging methods in order to make medicine more precise and personalized. This work will be a critical component of a new interdisciplinary research project funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that seeks to improve radiation therapy for high-risk prostate cancer patients.  “In order to do precision medicine, you need to see better,” said Pingkun Yan, assistant professor of biomedical engineering at Rensselaer. “If you cannot see, you can’t do anything.” 

During the 213th Commencement Ceremony at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the nation’s oldest technological university, the Honorable John P. Holdren urged the Class of 2019 to become emissaries “on the relevance of science and technology to the biggest issues affecting human well‐being.”

Kimball, professor of communication and media in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Rensselaer, the Ken Rainey Award for Excellence in Research. TROY, N.Y. — This spring, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the oldest technological research university in the United States, will award a total of 1,926 degrees—154 doctoral degrees, 373 master’s degrees, and 1,399 bachelor’s degrees—to 1,888 students, some of whom have earned more than one degree. These accomplishments will be celebrated during the 213th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18, beginning at 8:15 a.m. in the East Campus Athletic Village stadium on the Rensselaer campus.
