TROY, N.Y. — Ge Wang, the Clark and Crossan Endowed Chair of biomedical engineering and director of the Biomedical Imaging Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been named a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Election to NAI fellow is the highest professional distinction given to academic inventors. It is bestowed on those who have created or facilitated inventions that have improved quality of life, economic development, and the welfare of society.

TROY, N.Y. — If researchers could observe drug delivery and its effect on cancer cells in real time, they would be able to tailor treatment options with unprecedented specificity. An academic-industrial partnership between engineers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, molecular and cellular biologists at Albany Medical College, and engineers at MARS Bioimaging Ltd aims to make this a reality for the treatment of breast cancer through the combination of highly innovative X-ray and optical imaging technologies.

TROY, N.Y. —Machine learning has the potential to vastly advance medical imaging, particularly computerized tomography (CT) scanning, by reducing radiation exposure and improving image quality. Those new research findings were just published in Nature Machine Intelligence by engineers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and radiologists at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Master’s degree students studying business at Rensselaer are taking their academic knowledge to the next level by learning to identify commercialization pathways for lab research discoveries and inventions. 

Rensselaer professors Francine Berman and Ge Wang and Dean of Engineering Shekhar Garde have been named fellows of AAAS, the world’s largest general scientific society.

Biomedical imaging expert Ge Wang recently joined Rensselaer as the John A. Clark and Edward T. Crossan Professor of Engineering.
