Providing managers with the freedom to be entrepreneurial and take risks is essential to corporate innovation, according to recently published research conducted by faculty members in the Lally School of Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an alumnus of the Institute.

The Center for Career and Professional Development at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute continues to strategically build partnerships with companies to create an array of opportunities for students to pursue as part of The Arch at Rensselaer. One notable partnership Rensselaer cultivated is with Corning Incorporated.

As part of the inaugural class participating in The Arch at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, senior Peter Chinburg ’21, a mechanical engineering major with an entrepreneurship minor, secured a fall semester away co-op at Ecosystem in New York City.

Professor Thomas Begley has been invited to serve as chair of the management discipline of the Management Curriculum for the Digital Era (MaCuDE) project, which was initiated by Stevens Institute of Technology and is sponsored by PwC and AACSB. Its premise is that business schools have not kept up with the digital transformation of business and therefore, cannot provide students with the most up-to-date skills.

Ryan Gilbert, a professor of biomedical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, will serve as a member of the Bioengineering of Neuroscience, Vision and Low Vision Technologies Study Section for the National Institutes of Health Center for Scientific Review.

Juergen Hahn, the head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been named a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the highest grade of membership. Members are nominated to this position in recognition of significant experience in, and service to, the field of chemical engineering.

Jian Shi, an associate professor of materials science and engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, was recently appointed as an associate editor of the Journal of Applied Physics. 

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Professor James Hendler has been named to the International Advisory Board of Health Data Research UK, the national institute for health data science, which includes England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

Deepak Vashishth, the director of the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies and a professor of biomedical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been named a fellow of the American Bone and Mineral Society.
