Martin A. Schmidt, Ph.D., Named the 19th President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Martin A. Schmidt ’81, Ph.D., has been named the 19th President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) by the Rensselaer Board of Trustees. Dr. Schmidt, currently Provost at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), will assume office at the nation’s oldest and one of the world’s most renowned technological research universities on July 1, 2022.

Recent Board Game From Maurice Suckling Wins National Award

Chancellorsville 1863, a board game designed by Maurice Suckling, an assistant professor in the Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, took top prize in the Best American Civil War Board Game division of the 2020 Charles S. Roberts Milieu Awards.

Evan Douglis, dean of the School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, recently announced the publication of influx vol. 2, a book highlighting an extensive range of pedagogical and research innovations developed by architecture faculty and students during the years 2012-2019.

José Holguín-Veras Receives Humanitarian Logistics Award

José Holguín-Veras, a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has received a 2021 Humanitarian Logistics Award in the category of Research and Academic Contribution from the American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN).

Lee Ligon Elected Fellow of the American Society of Cell Biology

Lee Ligon, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute associate professor of biological sciences and the associate dean of science for academic affairs, has been chosen as a fellow of the American Society of Cell Biology (ASCB). Election as a fellow is an honor is bestowed on ASCB members by their peers.  Fellows are recognized for their meritorious efforts to advance cell biology and/or its applications, and for their service to the Society.
